In many ancient kingdoms, a dramatic mystery play was performed every year. It was about the death and return of the god and the king, and about the god's and the royal family's right to the land.
The prophets of the Bible saw the land and the people of Israel as the Daughter of Zion. Every year at Pentecost, the god Yahweh came to celebrate a sacred wedding with her – almost as it happens today everywhere in the Christian world. Because Christianity is founded on this great cultic myth of antiquity.
The evangelists' fantastic parables and stories are the baptist sect's interpretation of the myth and of the annual mystery play. But they are also a reinterpretation of the fact that the king and the people had failed Yahweh by leaving power in the country to the priests and the Pharisees. The drama can reveal much about early Christianity and the mysterious baptist sect that fostered it.
